Living in Stratford-upon-Avon

Stratford-upon-Avon is, of course, now synonymous with William Shakespeare, and the town's cultural and historical offerings don't disappoint. A stroll through the town will lead you past a number of well-preserved 16th century Tudor houses, and you can find out more about the poet and playwright's life and work in a number of locations, from Shakespeare's Birthplace to Anne Hathaway's Cottage. You can also visit Shakespeares' grave at the beautiful Holy Trinity Church, and the world famous Royal Shakespeare Theatre gives performances all year round.

With the River Avon bending its way through the town, could there be anything more delightful on a British summer's day than a river cruise? You can get to know the town a little better from the water, as well as the river's wildlife, and tours of the town's historic canal are also offered, where you can learn more about the canal's fascinating heritage.

For something unique, head to the Mechanical Art and Design Museum. The only specialist attraction of its kind in the UK, here you can experience and interact with mind-boggling machines. With both modern and old-fashioned contraptions on display, the museum is a treasure trove of creative and sophisticated design.

The Butterfly Farm is a haven of calm and serenity in Stratford-upon-Avon. Housing hundreds of exotic butterflies from all over the world, the farm's large tropical greenhouse allows you to stroll amongst these graceful creatures. Learn about their amazing lifecycles and discover other fascinating insects here at the largest and most comprehensive butterfly house in Europe.
