Living in Barnsley

Barnsley is nestled in the foothills of the Peak District, half way between Leeds and Sheffield. It’s a historic town which thrived during the industrial revolution, and which still maintains a strong community today. The town centre has plenty of amenities, including a wide variety of high street shops, banks, pharmacies, a Post Office, supermarkets, and hairdressers, as well as cafes, bars and restaurants. There are also excellent public transport connections to surrounding towns and cities. Barnsley train station is only 0.5 miles from the development, with regular services to Leeds in 36 minutes, and Sheffield in 30 minutes. The M1 motorway is just 2.9 miles from Barnsley town centre, which connects the town to the north and south easily.

One of the most popular attractions in the area is Cannon Hall Farm and museum, a working farm family attraction and 18th century mansion which houses artworks, furniture, and the museum of the Royal Hussars. Golfing enthusiasts will be happy that Silkstone Golf Club is just 2.9 miles away. The club was established in 1983 and recently benefitted from a re-development. The course is now a championship golf course, with stunning views over the Silkstone valley and surrounding countryside.

The Peak District is within easy reach for those looking to spend their retirement exploring the great outdoors. Woodhead and Torside reservoirs are just 18 miles away by car, both offering beautiful views and miles of rugged walking paths in the surrounding hills.
