Retire to Filey

Filey North Yorkshire

Lying along the magnificent North Yorkshire coast, Filey is nestled between its two more famous neighbours – Scarborough and Bridlington, which means it offers a quieter, more natural, beauty, ideal for retirement living. With miles of golden beaches, green gardens and the celebrated Filey Brigg - a narrow rock peninsula home to fossils and rockpools, it’s perfect for outdoor adventures and marks the end of the Cleveland Way national trail.

North York Moors

Filey is in a prime position from which to explore the glorious North Yorkshire coast and the iconic Victorian seaside towns of Bridlington, Scarborough and Whitby. But it is also close to a rich range of world class dramatic scenery including North Riding Forest Park, North York Moors National Park, Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Flamborough. It’s ideal for rambles, hikes, cycling and outdoor pursuits.

And if you’re a keen walker then there is always the Cleveland Way National Trail. This 109 mile/176 kilometre trail goes across the North York Moors National Park offering views of the stunning moorland and coast. You can do stretches of it in a few hours, but if you want to challenge yourself to walk the entire route from Filey to Helmsley it will take you around nine days.

Scarborough town

Filey is well connected by rail with central Filey train station offering services to the whole of the UK. The Filey to Whitby train takes just over an hour and you can be in Leeds in an hour and a half, Hull in just over an hour and London Kings Cross in 4 hours 20 minutes with a change at Doncaster.

A trip from Filey to Scarborough takes just 15 minutes by road or rail and as part of the Cleveland Way is also a pleasant 10 mile walking route.

For holidays abroad, Humberside airport is the closest option and takes you directly to plenty of popular European hotspots, but Leeds airport and Doncaster Sheffield airport are also easily accessible.
