This thriving 'Great Border Town' boasts a dramatic history and incredible location

Affluent Solihull is consistently voted one of the top places to live in the UK and it’s not hard to understand why. The town is the perfect mix of quaint and contemporary. Its historic architecture includes timber-framed Tudor houses and the town is surrounded by lush rolling countryside. But is also a buzzing cultural hub, with an incredible range of shopping, bars, restaurants, arts and entertainment to enjoy. No wonder it’s a popular place for retirement living.



Solihull is ideally located within easy reach of the urban hubs of Birmingham, Leamington Spa and Coventry, but also surrounded on all sides by lush green countryside, verdant woods, walks and trials and unusual rural attractions like Middle England Alpacas, in Henley-in-Arden where you can take these fascinating animals for a stroll through beautiful fields and farmland, or the uniquely odd 17th Century Chesterton Windmill.

Buzzing Birmingham is only a short distance from Solihull, giving you access to world-class entertainment and activities. This cultural hub is packed with innovative museums, art galleries and theatres to enjoy. The Arts and Crafts splendour of Winterbourne House and Garden makes for a fantastic day out. And you’ll be spoilt for choice on food and drink too – although the Balti Triangle is hard to beat.



As you’d expect from its central setting, Solihull has excellent connections to the rest of the country. The M42 links Solihull by road – you can be in Birmingham in under half an hour.  The town also has an excellent local bus service. From the centrally located Solihull Train Station you can get direct services to Birmingham, Leamington Spa and London. You can be in Birmingham city centre in 15 minutes and London in just over an hour and a half. 

For overseas adventures, Birmingham Airport is just the ticket – and you can be there by bus in around 20 minutes or by car/taxi in just 10.  From the airport you can fly to destinations all over the world, including New York, Singapore, Mumbai and Sydney.



Community spirit is strong in Solihull, and you’ll never be short of things to do in this friendly town. Community centres like Shelly Farm in Shirley offer everything from craft clubs to Pilates. While West Warwickshire sports complex has a gym as well as offering bowls, cricket, tennis and fitness classes. It also has a popular clubhouse, The Olton Bar and Grill for a post workout bevvy.

Prefer to skip the workout? Solihull AgeUK runs relaxed social pub lunches in taverns across the town – the Marston Green tavern, the Olten Tavern and the Red Lion pub.



Solihull boasts a wealth of green spaces and Green Flag Award-winning parks to explore. Malvern and Brueton Park has acres of landscaped grounds, a lake, tennis courts and in the centre you’ll find the Parkridge Wildlife Centre

Solihull is also home to the famous National Motorcycle Museum, the biggest collection of British made bikes in the world. And of course, Jaguar Land Rover – you can see these iconic cars being built or book a thrilling driving experience.

If retail therapy is your thing, Touchwood in Solihull town centre is the place to go. This award-winning shopping destination is home to 80 retail outlets, a huge Cineworld and over 20 bars and restaurants. Alternatively, head to the high streets – Knowle and Shirley have vibrant examples.
