Things to do in Beccles
The town centre is only a couple of minutes away from the development. Consisting of market squares and winding streets, Beccles contains a number of independent shops, cafes and restaurants and is home to everything from designer fashion stores to delicatessens. Set among rolling countryside on the banks of the River Waveney, festivals and entertainment events such as Beccles Carnival, The Duck Race and the Late Night Christmas Event are held throughout the year.
The River Waveney is the real star of the town, and these placid waterways are a great way to spend an afternoon. Day boats can all be hired, but a skippered boat provides the perfect way to explore the surroundings. Beccles Lido is the place to be in the summer months with a heated outdoor swimming pool and areas for sunbathing.
If you're interested in history, then Beccles also provides plenty to discover. Once a flourishing Saxon sea port, Beccles contains a number of Grade 1 listed buildings, including the Leman House in Ballygate, which is the home of the Beccles Museum. The 97 ft. Bell Tower is another historical landmark in the town. Detached from the main body of the church, it offers spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. Guided tours are available at certain times of the year.
