Retirement properties in Bath

In the South West and surrounding areas of our retirement homes in Bath, you’re also spoilt for choice. Whether you have family or friends paying you a visit, you’ll have plenty of options. Within the county of Somerset alone there’s Stonehenge, Glastonbury Tor and popular tourist towns like Wells and Weston-super-Mare. What’s more, the neighbouring city of Bristol is well worth seeing and has its own attractions and shopping options.

Bath is also well connected in terms of transport and there are direct trains to other UK cities as well as further down south. London Paddington for example can be reached in just under an hour and a half by rail.

Bath also has a number of top sights to see. Bath Abbey is a magnificent building with its stunning facade and rich history. Similarly, the city is home to many beautiful Georgian houses, many of which are made from the local Bath stone, famed for its golden colouring. Or why not take a tour of the 120-foot neo-classical Beckford’s Tower? After climbing up, you’ll be able to see some amazing natural views of the rolling hills that surround the area. 

Alternatively, if you’d prefer to visit the great outdoors, you can take a leisurely stroll along the Bath Skyline hills. These take you above the city and here you can enjoy the view of over six miles of meadows and woodlands. 

For a little retail therapy there’s Pulteney Bridge, which is a World Heritage Site and one of only three others in the world which has shops along either side. The architecture itself is impressive enough though and it’s easy to get swept away by its magnificence - so make sure you remember to visit the stores as well.

Alongside the community feel you’ll get at our retirement homes in Bath, the city prides itself on the wealth of community events and groups it has to offer. A quick search online will find a variety of community notice boards detailing what’s available from local groups, clubs and other societies in the area.

Retiring to Bath will also allow you to get involved in the many festivals the city hosts. From the annual Bath International Music Festival to the annual Bath Literature Festival and Bath Film Festival, or even the Bath Beer Festival, you’re sure to find something you’ll enjoy.

The city’s namesake Roman Baths is one of the top attractions near our retirement homes in Bath. Constructed around 70 AD, they remain one of the world’s best-preserved Roman structures. While you can visit and see the Baths for yourself, there’s also the museum section for you to explore, which will send you back thousands of years on a journey of discovery. 

Jumping forward in time from the Roman Empire, and if you love Jane Austen’s novels, then you can visit the Jane Austen Centre and immerse yourself in what life would be like in Regency times. Here you can explore the impact Bath itself had on Jane Austen’s life and writing, plus you can marvel at the centre’s classically Georgian townhouse.

Another of the most-famous attractions is the award-winning Thermae Bath Spa. Here you can relax in luxury spa facilities and enjoy the country’s only natural warm waters – much like the Romans and Celts did thousands of years ago.
