The UK’s leading manager and developer of retirement communities, McCarthy Stone, has announced that it has named its new Nuneaton Retirement Living development, The Close, in honour of local legend, Edward Melly.
As one of Nuneaton’s greatest benefactors, Edward Melly played a key role in founding and funding the Nuneaton General Hospital. He also donated land to create Riversley Park, as well as supporting local museums and sports clubs. Melly’s family home was located on Church Street, on the site of the new McCarthy Stone development, before the house was bombed during the Blitz in World War II. The house was also named The Close, after the grounds of Rugby School which Melly attended.
In recognition of Melly’s contribution to Nuneaton and his family’s link to the site of the new development, it will now also be known as The Close. The new development of 51privately-owned apartments for the over 60s is currently under construction, with first completions expected in the summer. An artist’s impression has now been released to show how the development will look when it is build complet.
Cheryl Bissett, Regional Sales and Marketing Director at McCarthy Stone East Midlands, commented: “We wanted to choose a name for our new development that was memorable, and would resonate with Nuneaton residents and future McCarthy Stone homeowners.
“We are looking forward to becoming an integrated part of the Nuneaton community, and we believe that The Close will play a real part in helping to bring friends and family together in later life, something we feel is important and will bring lots of positive benefits to the area.”
The forthcoming Nuneaton development will feature a stunning homeowners’ lounge, ideal for socialising with friends; beautifully landscaped gardens; an on-site car park; and a convenient guest suite, should homeowners have friends or relatives to stay. A House Manager will take care of the smooth day-to-day running of the development; while a security entrance system and 24-hour emergency call points provide added peace-of-mind for homeowners.
More than nine out of ten customers would recommend McCarthy Stone to a friend, ensuring it has received the full Five Star award for customer satisfaction from the Home Builders Federation for 13 years’ running. McCarthy Stone is the only UK housebuilder of any size or type to achieve this accolade for 13 years, which is every year the awards have been run.
