Goodwill Revival 2015: The Glitz And Glamour Of Ferrari's And Fashion
A fabulous three-day extravaganza!
The annual Goodwood Revival is always a sight to see – a fabulous 3-day event showcasing vintage cars, fabulous retro fashion and even historic Spitfires!
This year’s event was held 11th-13th September in Chichester, West Sussex and pulled out all the stops, with many iconic car brands celebrating historic milestones. (opposite: Vintage Ferrari on show – image courtesy of Caught in Time Studio).
2015 highlights included an exclusive collection of Shelby Daytona Coupes to celebrate their 50th anniversary, a ‘Seeing Red’ exhibition featuring 25 of the most legendary road-going Ferrari's, and the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain with flypasts and a display of more than 30 wartime aircraft.
And that’s without even mentioning the fashion! Over the years, Goodwood Revival has become just as famous for its period fashion as for its fast cars. The three days are a step back in time with men and women donning nostalgic outfits straight out of the 1940's, 50's and 60's – think tweeds and trilbies, frills and frocks, and of course, the ever-popular RAF uniform.

The Goodwood Circuit Club plays host to cars from the golden years of racing, the era of 1948 to 1966. This year’s event saw hundreds of classic road racing cars and motorbikes take to the racetrack to compete one of the world’s most authentic circuits.
Racing aside, there was also plenty to see – the world’s most expensive collection of vintage Ferrari's was a special once-in-a-lifetime exhibition, the right-hand-drive Ford Mustang debuted at the Goodwood Revival’s recreation of the Earls Court Motor Show, and two Ford GT40's paid tribute to Bruce McLaren.
There were also some incredible celebrity car auctions – Keith Richards’ ‘Blue Lena’ Bentley S3 Continental Flying Spur (which featured a special compartment for storing illicit items!) sold for £763,100, after undergoing a full five-year restoration.

Meanwhile, Top Gear host Chris Evans put up over £11 million worth of vintage cars, including his 1963 Ferrari 250 GT for a record-breaking £1.25 million as part of the Bonhams auction. The presenter also sold a 1983 Fiat 126 for £12,500 and a 1989 Ferrari 328GTS Targa for £115,000. His most famous car, a 1936 replica of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, which comes complete with multi-coloured wings, is still up for grabs – if you’ve got a spare £250,000! Evans’ also showed off the most expensive car for sale – a rare mint green Ferrari 275GTB/6C with a guide price of £2.9 million!
Also on display was the Greenwood Revival Car Park, called ‘Over the Road’ and available completely for free. From Europe and beyond, classic car rev-heads came to Sussex to show off their babies. As with Goodwood Revival tradition, event goers were invited to vote for their favourite car.

This 2015 edition of the Goodwood Revival celebrated 50 years since ‘Youthquake’, the historic 1960s cultural movement which saw the Jean Shrimpton, Twiggy and, of course, the miniskirt shoot to worldwide fame. To celebrate the anniversary, the Best Dressed judges were looking for the most iconic miniskirt, with prizes to be won from Veuve Cliquot and Robusto House cigars. The judges included style authorities and personalities, including fashion photographers Nick Clements and Matt Hind, designer Kelly Dawson, London stylist Brodie Phillips and British rocker revivalists Sarah Bradley and Jake Turner.
Celebrities also donned their Sunday best, including Geri Halliwell, Rowan Atkinson, David Gandy and racing legends Sterling Moss and Jackie Stewart, who all joined the tens of thousands of motoring and fashion fans.

The action wasn’t just on the road at the Goodwood Revival, but also in the skies, with a record number of Spitfires marking the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. 24 Spitfires, 8 Hurricanes and the last flying Bristol Blenheim bomber flew overhead in a jaw-dropping demonstration. Saturday afternoon’s mock dogfight between a Spitfire and Mustang was a definite highlight for many aviation fans.

The three days of the festival also started with a dawn patrol, with a 51 Mustang on Friday and Saturday mornings and a Spitfire on Sunday.
If you’ve never experienced the Goodwood Revival, then you’re missing out on a true spectacle. Not to worry, it’s held every year in September, so you’ve got a while to pull out the tweed and prepare your outfit!
