Fair Close Day Centre Gets a Boost from McCarthy Stone
McCarthy Stone are delighted to have given the Fair Close Day Centre a boost with a donation of more than £1,700 to support the creation of the Men’s Shed and sponsor the annual newsletter.
Opened in 1967 by the Queen Mother, Fair Close Day Centre aims to enrich the lives of older people across West Berkshire by providing a place where local people can go to spend time with friends and meet like-minded people. The new Men’s Shed will provide a communal place for people in Newbury and Thatcham to pursue practical interests, practice skills and get involved in community projects, while making social connections and friendships.
James Wilcox, Chief Executive at Fair Close Day Centre, commented: “We are very grateful to McCarthy Stone for its generous donation. The day centre is a group where older people, living in our community, have always enjoyed meeting and spending valuable time together.
“Once it is safe to do so, we are looking forward to beginning the Men’s Shed project, which we hope will encourage new Shedders and bring local Shedders together. While the pandemic has meant we have had to change the way we operate, gestures such as this really do help to boost our funds and make a difference.”
Nicki Beswarick, Divisional Marketing Manager for McCarthy Stone Southern, commented: “As a company, we appreciate our responsibilities go further than building quality retirement apartments, and we also seek to create a positive legacy in the towns and cities in which we build.
“We were delighted to give this donation to Fair Close Day Centre. We appreciate this is difficult time for the day centre and other community groups which are currently unable to meet in the ways they used to, and we hope these funds help to make a difference as the day centre continues to navigate through these challenges.”
The adjacent developments, Turner Place and William House, are currently under construction in central Thatcham, with the first homeowners expected from late summer 2021. One and two-bedroom apartments at both developments will be available to rent or buy off-plan from March 2021.
