Discover the Butterflies in the Glasshouse
Escape to tropical climes this winter at RHS Garden Wisley with their glasshouse of butterflies!
Looking to escape the cold this winter or looking for a family friendly activity that introduces them to nature? RHS Garden Wisley might have the perfect answer...
Nestled safely within the setting of a beautiful cathedral-like Glasshouse, are more than 50 vibrant species of exotic butterflies flying freely among the tropical indoor climate.
The butterflies will be showcasing their magnificent colours, patterns and form among lush plantings such as palm trees, bananas, bromeliads and climbers, as well as the aquatic plants that thrive in the warm jungle pool.
Lots to see and do
This year there are several new species of butterflies to see, including such as Graphium doson (common jay), a black tropical butterfly with pale blue wing bands, and swallowtail Papilio paris (Paris peacock), pick up a spotter guide on arrival to identify the ones you have seen!
You can become a butterfly expert in the interactive, family-friendly Education Zone. Here you can spark your imagination, learn all about the fascinating life cycle of a butterfly, get up close to caterpillars, and use microscopes to admire those beautiful wings.
You'll also find butterfly-themed sculptures in the garden around the Glasshouse Landscape, created by artist Alison Catchlove - who will be demonstrating her sculpting skills in the Glasshouse Gallery every Friday – Sunday during the event!
You can round off your visit by sampling a selection of butterfly themed cakes at one of the Taste of Wisley outlets.
