Captivating Colchester

Britain’s first city is a gateway to East Anglia with pastoral fields of Constable Country and the coast just a stone's throw away.

Once the former capital of Britain, today Colchester is a thriving town in Essex. With a history dating back over 2,000 years, visitors can enjoy a vibrant variety of historic and cultural attractions.

The historic town centre is circled by the longest standing Roman town wall in the country, housing many medieval and religious landmarks from the famous Roman ruins to the Victorian splendour. Colchester’s spectacular castle is the largest Norman Keep in Europe, where you can travel back in time to reveal the fascinating layers of its history.

Atown of firsts, St Botolph’s Priory was also one of the first Augustinian priories in England. Built in flint and reused Roman brick, you can walk around the site ruins to admire the impressive circular pillars and round arches that are still visible today.

Among the many museums and galleries now back open for business, this wonderful city is also filled with many hidden gems, independent boutiques and cafes. At the heart of Colchester, Tymperleys tea room is an oasis of calm. Set in a beautiful, large walled garden, it’s a lovely place to enjoy a sandwich or afternoon tea.

There’s an abundance of open-air spaces to enjoy from parks, gardens and wildlife trusts. And for those with a more exotic taste in nature, you can explore Beth Chatto’s award winning gardens or meet the animals at Colchester Zoo (booking essential).

Less than a couple of miles from the centre of the UK’s oldest recorded town, our Colchester development, Lancer House is perfectly located to take full advantage of the local attractions and places of interest. Shops and other local amenities are all within walking distance.

The Retirement Living PLUS development has 53 one and two bed apartments. Elegantly designed, homeowners can choose to have a private balcony while enjoying modern facilities, spacious living areas and ample storage. The communal lounge and landscaped gardens are lovely areas to enjoy a tea and coffee or an overdue catch up with friends.

For those of you who only like to cook every now and then, you can indulge in the homecooked menu served in the onsite bistro by our talented chefs. This is a great place to have dinner with family and friends.
