Whitley Bay retirement housing team donate to local lifesavers

To recognise the outstanding services that the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade (TVLB) provides, the team behind the Retirement Living Plus development, Elderton Place in Whitley Bay, has donated £500 to support its lifesaving activities.

Based at The Watch House Museum in Tynemouth, a short drive from our retirement housing, the life brigade’s volunteers are on call 24/7 365 days a year and play a key role in helping to save lives off the North East coast, with training in rope and water rescue, coastal search and rescue, and advanced first aid. Founded in 1864, TVLB is one of only three remaining active Volunteer Life Brigades - alongside South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade and Sunderland Volunteer Life Brigade - and is the oldest of these organisations.

The money will be used towards personal protective equipment, insurance, and the upkeep of the Watch House Museum.

Dave Bell, Watch House Director for the TVLB, comments: “The Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade is a huge part of the North Tyneside community and has been for 160 years. The team are incredibly committed and it’s a huge pleasure to work alongside them, helping to make a difference to people’s lives. We want to say a big thank you to McCarthy & Stone for their support which will help us to enhance our capabilities and continue our life-saving work along the coast.”

Louise Flynn, Divisional Marketing Manager at McCarthy & Stone, says: “As part of our commitment to the local community we wanted to support and recognise the important life-saving work of the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade.”
