Wiltshire's Cathedral City is now an even more attractive location for retirement with the addition of McCarthy Stone's Retirement Living development, Castle Gate. Now completed and proving very popular amongst retirees looking to live in the heart of Salisbury, the spacious, stylish and luxurious complex is exclusively available for the over-60s and features 11 one bed and 13 two bedroom apartments.
Every spacious apartment features stylish fixtures and modern features like Sky TV access points in the living room and main bedroom. There is a fully fitted kitchen with oven, hob and hood, and double glazing as standard for warmth and energy efficiency.
The safety and security of homeowners is our priority, which is why we fit all apartments with burglar alarms, smoke detectors, and a camera entry system so residents can see visitors before they permit them access to the complex. Our on-site House Manager will be available to assist residents with any queries or issues. Communal spaces like the homeowners' lounge and landscaped gardens encourage a community feel, allowing homeowners to get to know their neighbours and providing a space for socialising with visiting family or friends. We limit the number of apartments for this reason, creating a welcoming and friendly atmosphere where homeowners can feel truly at home.
The development is designed with future proofing in mind, with lifts and wheelchair access throughout, so you can keep your independence during your later years. We also provide a 24-hour emergency call system, to give homeowners extra peace-of-mind. There is plenty of car parking spaces, including additional guest parking so that visitors are always welcome. The Guest Suite is also available, so that friends and family who've travelled a long way have a place to spend the night.

What is an Assured Tenancy?
Assured Tenancy means that you agree to rent the property for a minimum term of 12 months, but after that you can leave at any time as long as you give two months written notice. We can’t ask you to leave unless you have broken the terms of the agreement.
I want to rent. What checks do you carry out and what do I need to prepare?
We’ll ask you to complete a Rental Application Pack and an Income and Expenditure form to get the information we need to do standard background checks. You’ll be asked for proof of income, savings and/or pensions, along with copies of your last three months’ bank statements. You’ll be asked to provide identification documentation that complies with the latest Government Right to Rent regulations – our sales consultants will talk you through what you need.
Do I need to pay a reservation deposit?
Yes, you will need to pay a small refundable reservation deposit to reserve the property. You will also have to pay a security deposit equivalent to five weeks rent when you move in.
What do I have to pay before moving in?
Before you can move into your property, you will need to pay the first month’s rent together with your security deposit, minus the reservation deposit you’ve already paid.
The security deposit is equivalent to five weeks rent. Don’t worry, we’ll make sure you know the exact amount you need to pay in plenty of time.
McCarthy Stone is part of the Tenancy Deposit Scheme, membership number G10625. Download the Tenancy Deposit Scheme leaflet.
What date are rental payments due?
All rental payments are due on the 1st of each month and must be paid by direct debit. Your rent includes all of the development’s service charges, ground rents and property maintenance.
It’s an affordable approach to owning a stunning new retirement home:
- You may be able to access cash tied up in your existing property (known as ‘equity release’)
- You can choose to buy a bigger percentage of the property in the future – this reduces the rent you pay
- If you want, we can buy your existing property as a part exchange
- You’ll be eligible for our free Smooth Move removal service, plus a contribution to legal and estate agent fees
The rent is set at the point of purchase. Annual rent review on the date specified in your lease will be indexed to movements in the Retail Price Index (RPI) subject to a minimum 0.5%. RPI has been in the range c.1-4% since 2013 and was 3.3% in March 2018. 3.3% is equivalent to an extra £1.98 per week for typical rent of £60 per week.

Living in Salisbury
Castle Gate boasts an enviable location set back from the city centre in Salisbury, close to the River Avon and all the local amenities. Salisbury is a thriving Cathedral city, and known locally as 'the city in the countryside' thanks to the quintessentially English countryside of Wiltshire which surrounds it. The city has a bustling, energetic atmosphere, and is popular with tourists during the summer months thanks to its impressive Cathedral and close proximity to Salisbury Plains. There's always plenty to see and do, from catching a theatre show at Salisbury Playhouse to taking a stroll through Queen Elizabeth Gardens and Churchill Garden.
The impressive and historic Salisbury Cathedral towers over the city - home to the best preserved copy of the Magna Carta. History lovers will also have plenty to admire at Salisbury Museum and The Rifles Berkshire and Wiltshire Museum, only 0.7 miles away from the McCarthy Stone development on foot. Castle Street is one of the main roads in Salisbury, with a Tesco Metro, Iceland, and a number of pubs, bars and restaurants within walking distance of the McCarthy Stone complex. The main shopping district of the city is only 0.3 miles from the development, where all the high street stores can be found, from Laura Ashley and Clarks to WHSmith and H&M.
If you're a lover of the great outdoors, then Salisbury is the ideal destination for retirement. To the west is Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, while to the south the New Forest National Park stretches all the way to the south coast. For golf lovers, Salisbury and South Wiltshire Gold Course is under six miles away.
