Local Club Bowled Over By McCarthy Stone Donation
The UK’s leading developer and manager of retirement communities, McCarthy Stone, which is behind the forthcoming Retirement Living development on Willand Road in Cullompton, has given Cullompton Bowling Club a welcome boost with a £250 donation.
Founded in 1901 – and having the honour of being one of the oldest surviving bowling clubs in the country –Cullompton Bowling Club welcomes members of all ages and abilities and offers a thriving social side to the club throughout the season.
Next year, Cullompton Bowling Club is being completely rebuilt by the council due to a new road running through the current clubhouse. The new Club will feature a brand-new clubhouse and an artificial green, allowing members to play all year round without the need for the maintenance of a real grass bowling green.
McCarthy Stone’s Divisional Marketing Executive, Anthony St Croix, presented Club President, Steve Stack, and Chairman, Brian Clements, with a cheque for £250 to help fund stylish new club shirts to modernise their appearance and help foster team spirit.
Steve Stack said: “We are very grateful to McCarthy Stone for the generous donation. As a club that is almost 120 years old, we value our place within the Cullompton community, and support from local businesses plays an important role in keeping our club running.
“Due to Covid-19, we have been unable to host any fixtures since April which has heavily impacted on our revenue; however, we are fortunate to have a loyal membership base and it’s been good to see local people recently returning to play bowls as well as enjoying a drink outside the clubhouse. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to recommence competitive matches on our new artificial green when the new season resumes next April.”
Nicki Beswarick, Divisional Marketing Manager for McCarthy Stone South, added: “Here at McCarthy Stone, we appreciate our responsibilities go further than building high-quality retirement apartments - we also seek to create a positive legacy in the communities in which we build.
“Cullompton Bowling Club recognises the importance of bringing local people together to enjoy sporting and social activities. It is working hard to adapt to the challenges of Covid-19 to ensure its members and patrons are still able to make the most of its facilities and the opportunities the club brings for safely socialising and interacting with others.
“It was an absolute pleasure to present the donation to the Bowling Club, and all of us here at McCarthy Stone in Cullompton wish the club every success with its ongoing commitment to promote and foster the game of bowls.”
Future residents at McCarthy Stone’s Cullompton Retirement Living development will have access to a stylish and welcoming communal lounge, which will be perfect for socialising with new neighbours, landscaped gardens maintained by McCarthy Stone’s team, and a handy guest suite for when family and friends come to stay.
