Joan Pye had led a full and happy life with her husband Ken. Together, they raised three children and several grandchildren in their four-bedroom house in Shevington . However, after her husband sadly passed away, the strain of maintaining a large property became overwhelming for Joan. Downsizing to a more manageable property seemed like an ideal solution and would enable her to fulfil some of her lifetime ambitions.
Joan’s daughter Gillian said; “Mum was very independent. She had a thirst for life and wanted to see the world.”
“When McCarthy Stone started building in the nearby town of Chorlton my mother was so excited. She already had friends living in the area, so it was the perfect location for her to downsize to.”
“Although it was difficult for her to move from the home she lived in for many years, she later remarked that it was the best decision she ever made!”
After moving to Cosgrove Hall Court in 2013, Joan embraced retirement living to the full. She became a member of the U3A (University of the Third Age), studying poetry and creative writing. Her love of cricket saw her visit Old Trafford regularly and travel the world, as she followed England’s Cricket team on their tours of Australia, the West Indies, South Africa and New Zealand. Joan also enjoyed a busy social life and went on regular holidays with her friends.
Gillian commented; “Mum was never one to let the grass grow under her feet. Our family often joked that we had to make an appointment to visit her as she was always so busy!”
Sadly, in the Summer of 2019 Joan became ill and moved in with her daughter to receive palliative care. It was then that Joan discussed with Gillian her final wishes.
“It was a very difficult time, but Mum had given her final arrangements a great deal of thought. She had organised all her important documents together, along with details for her funeral arrangements and instructions to contact McCarthy Stone Resales to sell her apartment.”
“We didn’t realise it at the time, but later this information became invaluable to my siblings and I. Together, we carried out mum’s wishes to the letter, which made everything far less complicated and stressful.”
“A few weeks after mum passed away, we arranged for McCarthy Stone Resales to value the apartment at Cosgrove Hall Court. Once we agreed a sale price the property went on the market promptly and we had viewings organised straight away.”
“Una, the lovely House Manager was able to conduct all the viewings, so I didn’t need to take time of work to be there.”
“Within a few short days we had our first offer. The buyers were keen to take the property off the market and eventually we agreed a sale over the asking price.”
“We were delighted to achieve such a great result so quickly,” continued Gillian. “Our Property Consultant Georgia was fantastic at negotiating and keeping us informed throughout the process.”
“The best thing about the resales service was that they just took care of everything and made the whole process hassle-free. The team were really supportive and if I was unsure of anything, they were only too happy to help.”
“Another benefit to McCarthy Stone’s resales service was that they have their own in-house Sales Progressor, Scott- who was brilliant! He chased the sale at every stage and kept me in the loop with weekly updates, meaning I never had the hassle of having to chase Solicitors or Estate Agents.”
“I would highly recommend McCarthy Stone Resales to anyone wanting to sell a managed retirement apartment. The service they provided gave me complete peace of mind, as I knew everyone was doing their very best to get the best result possible for our family.”
“I very much doubt we would have achieved such a good price, or a quicker sale had we have used another estate agent.”
