"We're much happier. Well I am, yes! I mean I did have some doubts, what am I going to do, you know, stuck in a two-bedroom apartment all day long with nothing to do. Now I am working out when am I going to get a break!"

THE LOCAL AREA

Things to do in Woking

Made famous by H.G. Wells, Woking is a fantastic place for retirement living, boasting an eclectic range of cultural attractions and an interesting history. As well as being the landing place for aliens in War of the Worlds, it is the birthplace of The Jam, home to the award-winning Lightbox art gallery and museum and the centre where McLaren build their sports supercars - it also has the UK’s oldest mosque, the striking Shah Jahan, built in 1889.

A cultural hotspot, Woking is packed with restaurants and eateries. Cuisines from around the world sit alongside traditional pubs and regular farmers markets. You’ll also find a thriving shopping centre and abundant amenities.

There are plenty of beauty spots in to explore – the Basingstoke Canal runs through Woking and is a gorgeous place for a walk, cycle – or a boat trip. It’s a golfer’s dream location too, with the wonderful ‘3 W’s’ golf courses in close proximity. Woking Golf Club being the nearest - and one of the best in the UK - West Hill and Worplesdon are the other ‘Ws’.

As well as the wealth of natural beauty in Surrey on the doorstep, from Woking trains station you can be sampling the delights of central London in just half an hour.
