The old market town of Kendal is set in the spectacular surroundings of the Lake District. It’s also only a short drive from the Yorkshire Dales National Park, making it a popular destination for walkers and sightseers alike. Inspired by his surroundings, Alfred Wainwright, the author of the well-known guidebooks, lived in Kendal for the vast majority of his life.
Kendal was a centre for the woollen industry as well as a destination for cattle drives from Scotland. The town boasts many Victorian buildings constructed from local limestone, but its history stretches much further back and even showcases the remains of a Norman Castle.
Kendal has been given the moniker of ‘the gateway to the Lake District’ and its transport connections are testament to this. The M6 is a stone’s throw to the South, providing easy access to both Penrith and Carlisle. Kendal is well-served by rail connections and forms part of the West Coast main line from London to Glasgow.
All McCarthy & Stone developments benefit from a guest suite. A homeowner's guest or guests are welcome to stay for as long as the suite is available and paid for. The cost is up to £25* per night for the room. To find about our guest suite, click here.
