This handsome town is known for its unique heritage too. It boasts a rich history of woollen cloth trading, two magnificent castles: Tiverton and Bickleigh plus the iconic and colourful Shire horse drawn barges at the award winning Grand Western Canal Country Park. Teeming with wildlife and with an impressive 24 bridges along its 11 mile towpath, this is a beautiful spot to explore on0 foot or by bike or even by boat.

Other attractions include the wilds of Exmoor, the National Trust’s Knightshayes Court House and Gardens, and the Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life. And there are two architecturally interesting walking trails: the Tiverton Merchants’ Trail and the West Exe Trail.

Tiverton is blessed with a wide range of amenities with supermarkets, independent shops, Pannier Markets and Farmers markets, plus plentiful pubs, restaurants and cafes, health centres and a fantastic leisure centre. The Exe Valley Leisure Centre, with a pool, gym and classes, is just a few minutes away from our new retirement properties in Tiverton. There are also multiple sports clubs in the town and surroundings including Tiverton Golf Club. Tiverton has a strong community and you can expect events throughout the year, with the biggest being the Mid Devon Show in July which celebrates farming with live music, food, drink and more.

With easy access to the South West and beyond, via the M5 and Tiverton Parkway Train Station which has frequent trains to the likes of Exeter, Bristol, London, this really is a perfect spot for happy retirement.
