Living in Penkridge

Penkridge is a lively town that’s full of amenities and attractions. It’s most famous for its twice weekly market, as well as its monthly fine food and craft market. At its busiest, the market hosts up to 100 stalls. There’s also a Sainsbury’s Local and a Co-operative Food for when you require essentials.

The main street in the town is only a short distance away from our retirement bungalows in Penkridge. Known as Market Street, it’s full of small shops that are housed in historic buildings, with many of these dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries. The town is also home to a dentist, a Methodist church, an Anglican church and a health centre, as well as other amenities.

Penkridge also has a strong community presence, so when you relocate, you’ll find it easy to make new friends and take part in your favourite hobby. The town’s home to a number of societies to help with this, including a bowls club, a bridge club, a craft club and a flower club. If you’re a keen gardener who loves to grow plants and vegetables, then the town also has a couple of allotment sites owned by Penkridge Parish Council.

If you like to get active or simply watch sports, then you’ll be pleased to know that Penkridge has a number of sports clubs, including cricket, rugby union, football and tennis. If you like to play golf, then you’ll also have a choice of three courses in the surrounding area, including Cannock Park Golf Course, The Chase Golf, Health Club & Spa, and Beau Desert Golf Club.

The town is close to both the River Penk and the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal, and both of these contain picturesque walking routes. You’re also close to the Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Plus, the public transport means you can head even further afield with ease. From Penkridge train station, you can get direct trains to Crewe and Liverpool Lime Street to the north, and Birmingham New Street and London Euston to the south. The town is also passed by the M6, so you can drive to Birmingham in under half an hour.
