MCCARTHY STONE IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE NEW VITAL APPOINTMENT AT FORTHCOMING RETIREMENT LIVING PLUS DEVELOPMENT

McCarthy Stone, is continuing to invest in its future homeowners and staff with the appointment of Kelly Cooper as Estate Manager for the forthcoming Retirement Living Plus development, Matcham Grange, in Harrogate.

Sustaining the best in care, McCarthy Stone’s latest recruit has a vast history of caregiving both in her personal life and professional career, which she looks forward to adapting to the flexible support services that will be available at Matcham Grange - tailored to the needs of the future homeowners. 

Kelly Cooper, aged 41 from Leeds, began the path to where she is today as a carer for her son, who has cystic fibrosis. 

“For 18 years I was, you could say, an informal carer for my son. It consisted of a lot of different things, from managing his antibiotics and dietary requirements to helping with physiotherapy exercises and everything else in between.

“During this time, I was a full-time mum to my other children too, and I am now a mum of six children – three of which have now moved out and started their own lives and careers. 

“After 18 years, I then became a one-to-one personal care assistant for a few years before joining a care home just before lockdown in 2020. In the 20 months that followed I managed to move my way up from a care assistant to a deputy manager, and now an Estate Manager at McCarthy Stone.”

First occupants are expected to move into Matcham Grange at the end of May, and once they are in Kelly will have her hands full with her day-to-day duties and beyond.

“My day-to-day role will consist of looking after the building, the staff and the homeowners. I’ll be in charge of organising events, handling fire checks, security checks, and wellbeing checks, as well as managing four duty managers and several care and support workers who will also be a part of the Matcham Grange team.

“I will also be studying towards my level 5 Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF) qualification and assisting three of my duty managers to reach their level three.

“Shifting from working in care to managing the flexible needs of McCarthy Stone homeowners is my next challenge, but I’m looking forward to fostering a sense of community at the development, getting to know the homeowners' likes and dislikes and aiding any clubs or groups they might wish to form. We want the homeowners to feel at home as soon as possible, and it is my goal to make this a reality.”
