The retirement development for the over 60s is designed to encourage a community feeling to flourish, while also allowing you to enjoy the complete privacy of your own retirement apartment.

Alavana Place features a lovely, communal garden to relax and socialise in and a chic communal lounge to meet with friends and neighbours. It also offers a large well-appointed hotel-style guest suite for when friends and family come to stay, there's a reading room and hobbies room all with views over across Kendal Cricket grounds.

Your retirement apartment will be ergonomically designed to ensure it is a joy to live in, while the latest safety and security features are integral. As well as the reassurance of a manager onsite in office hours, you’ll benefit from a 24-hour emergency call system, fire detection and video door entry.

Things to do in Kendal, Cumbria

We all associate Kendal with the great outdoors, but while there are some truly wonderful walks for all abilities to enjoy– and an annual Kendal Walking Festival every May, there are plenty of more relaxing ways to enjoy the town from shopping to museums and history trails. Kendal is packed full of creative and artisanal eateries and micro-producers, making a delightful spot for foodies – and there are plenty of independent pubs and bars too, including the oldest inn in town, Ye Olde Fleece Inn, which often puts on events from pop up cinemas to comedy nights.

THE LOCAL AREA

Retirement living in Kendal, Lake District

The market town of Kendal, the third largest town in Cumbria, is on the edge of the UNESCO World Heritage Lake District National Park. It is seen as the Southern gateway to this unique and beautiful landscape which has 16 lakes and over 200 fells.

Kendal is just 8 miles from the area’s largest and most famous lake, Lake Windermere (from Kendal train station the journey takes just 15 minutes) and is an ideal base to explore the whole region, which boasts the likes of Coniston Water, the inspiration for Arthur Ransome’s Swallows and Amazons; Esthwaite Water which inspired Beatrix Potter and Ullswater which is surrounded by the breath-taking Helvellyn mountain range.

If you crave coastline then the Furness peninsula offers scenic beaches and wildlife walks, as well as access to the fascinating, yet tiny, Piel Island, which boasts a historic fort and a living, breathing king!

Testimonial - McCarthy Stone

“The gardens here are the most beautiful I've ever seen, and I get to enjoy them without the worry of having to maintain them myself. It is just such an easy way of life and I would absolutely recommend downsizing to a development such as this.”
