Helping to recognise the outstanding services the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade (TVLB) provides, the team behind the McCarthy Stone Retirement Living Plus development, Elderton Place in Whitley Bay has donated £500 to support it's lifesaving activities.

Based at the The Watch House Museum in Tynemouth, the life brigade's volunteers are on call 24/7, 365 days a year and play a key role in helping to save lives off the North East coast, with training in rope and rescue, coastal search and rescue and advanced first aid. Founded in 1864, TVLB is one of only three remaining active Volunteer Life Brigades - alongside South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade and Sunderland Volunteer Life Brigade - and is the oldest of these organisations.

As a registered charity, the TVLB relies heavily on donations and has a minimum annual fundraising target of around £40,000 to be able to operate.

Spotting an opportunity to help, the McCarthy Stone team at Elderton Place on Coquet Avenue - a short 12 minute drive from the TVLB's base, has donated £500. The money will be used towards personal protective equipment, insurance and the upkeep of the Watch House Museum.

Dave Bell, Watch House Director for the TVLB comments "The Tynemouth Voluneer Life Brigade is a huge part of the North Tyneside community and has been for 160 years. The team are incredibly committed and it's a huge pleasure to work alongside them, helping to make a difference to people's lives. We want to say a big thank you to McCarthy Stone for their support which will help us to enhance our capabilities and continue our life-saving work along the coast.
