Keen Whitley Bay homeowners pass the crochet needle to local retirees at Knit and Natter event
Whitley Bay retirees opened up the doors at McCarthy Stone's Elderton Place Retirement Living Plus development to host a knit and natter club, just one of the many active social clubs open to the public. The knit and natter event, which was hosted by homeowners, not only aimed to build flourishing friendships in the community, but importantly encouraged people to discover new-found hobbies which according to one study are known to lower levels of depression and provide higher life satisfaction, happiness and self reported health in people aged 65 and over.
On the day, knitting-fanatic homeowners passed on the knitting needle to Whitley Bay locals and taught them how to stitch and how to choose the right yarn for the right project. Visitors also had the chance to tour the development with their friends and family, whilst enjoying some light refreshments and speaking to members of the McCarthy Stone team.
Louise Flynn, Divisional Marketing Manager said "We're keen to bolster the effects of hobbies and interests by encouraging new friendships, promoting physical activity and improving self-confidence. We look forward to welcoming more local retirees to Elderton Place to take a sneak peak at some of the community clubs that have been created here."
