Living in Chesterfield

Chesterfield is a place where history, heritage and modernity meet. This market town in Derbyshire is known as the gateway to the Peak District, yet the cities of Sheffield and Derby are only 11 and 24 miles from Chesterfield, respectively.

Chesterfield holds various regular markets. Its general open-air market is held three times a week and offers fresh food products, as well as clothing and home wares. The town's flea market is held every Thursday, where you can pick up a range of second-hand gems. And on the second Thursday of every month you can browse the fresh produce and homemade delights on offer at Chesterfield's farmers market. The town also hosts a variety of annual events, including craft and plant fairs, the Street Food and Grooves Festival and a Medieval Fun Day.

Along with all that the spectacular Peak District has to offer, Chesterfield's canal is a beautiful spot for relaxing walks in the sunshine. What's more, Holmebrook Valley Country Park is a lovely place for walking your dog, and Hardwick Hall is a magnificent National Trust property with spectacular grounds for you to explore.

To learn more about Chesterfield's rich heritage, visit the town's museum and art gallery. Discover how the town has developed over the centuries, from its origins as a Roman fort. And pop over the road to Chesterfield Parish Church, where you can enjoy fantastic views from its aptly named Crooked Spire.
