Located in the Metropolitan Borough of Calderdale in West Yorkshire, Brighouse is well placed for links to other large towns in the area, including Halifax and Huddersfield. Manchester and Leeds are also within easy reach via road and public transport.
For some retail therapy Brighouse offers plenty of excellent options. Bethel Street and Commercial Street represent the main shopping areas of the town and include a number of high street names, as well as a good selection of independent and speciality shops. Ryecorn Wholefoods have a passion for sourcing the best locally produced items and offer more than 300 local health food products, whilst family-run Czerwicks serve up an excellent selection of fine wine and cheeses to the local community.
The town centre also includes a number of high quality cafes, restaurants and bars offering a selection of world foods. The area is also home to a number of craft beer producers and their produce can be found in several of the local pubs. The town also plays host to a regular food and craft market with more than 80 stalls offering goods from local farmers, artists and traders. In 2012 the market was awarded the NABMA award for Best Small Speciality Market in the UK.
Although peaceful, Brighouse offers plenty of activity and entertainment. With two art galleries, a large sports centre and the Cromwell Bottom Nature Reserve on the doorstep, there are plenty of options for outdoors lovers and fitness lovers alike. The Ritz Ballroom is one of the best examples of an old-style ballroom in the country and hosts a variety of events throughout the year; from ballroom dancing to Blues and Northern Soul nights.
