Approximately 30 miles northeast of London, Bovingdon is charming and full of character, which makes it a very desirable destination for your retirement. Once a medieval village, Bovingdon today is a large town with a variety of local events and activities. One of its main attractions is the Bobsleigh Inn on Box Lane, a 16th century house that has been converted into a hotel and restaurant. Many celebrities have stayed there over the years, including Bob Hope.
Bovingdon is also known for its RAF airfield just outside of the city centre. Built in 1942, the disused airfield was an important training base during the WWII, but has since been turned into a site for the weekly Saturday markets. Other points of interest include Little Hay Golf Complex, Whipsnade Zoo and the surrounding Chilterns with their beautiful scenic walking trails.
In Bovingdon itself, you’ll find everything you need, such as supermarkets, restaurants, a post office and more. The town is easily accessible – the nearest train station is Hemel Hempstead and runs fast trains to London Euston every 15 minutes. The A41, M25, M1 and M40 all pass right by Bovingdon, so getting in and out by car is never a problem.
