Living in Ashbourne

With winding cobbled streets, a picturesque Market Square and a number of Georgian and Tudor buildings lining its streets, Ashbourne is an idyllic location to retire to. 

The town itself is home to over 200 listed buildings, including everything from coaching inns, town houses and historic almshouses. In addition, you'll also find the 212-feet high spire of St Oswald's Parish Church, which was once described by author George Eliot as 'the finest spire in England'

In the town, you'll also find a great number of shopping opportunities, including a number of boutiques and family-run shops. A highlight for many local residents remains the weekly open-air market. Here you can buy a great range of items from antiques, food and drink, clothing and much more. Plus, when you've finished shopping, the Market Square is surrounded by cafes, tea rooms, restaurants and inns, which are the perfect places to stop, recharge and watch the world go by.

If you're looking to stay active in your retirement years, then Ashbourne is a great option. The town is located at the start of the popular Tissington Trail, which is traffic-free and great for walking or cycling. The Tissington Trail also links to Dovedale, the Pennine Bridleway and the High Peak Trail, so you'll never be short of places to explore.
