Scholars Gate in St Andrews welcomes local author
23 January 2014
We’re thrilled that Scholars Gate, which is situated right in the heart of St Andrews had the chance to welcome local author Jennie Erdal last month to officially open our new luxurious reading room! As part of the event, Jennie also helped us host the first of the development’s book club meetings where homeowners will regularly meet to chat and exchange views about books they’re reading as a group.
With the help from the independent bookshop J & G Innes we were able to arrange Jennie’s visit to our development and we’re pleased she took us up on our offer to mark the official opening of our first dedicated reading room within one of our developments.
We were very lucky to have Jennie join us and to comment on our new facility “It is a great privilege to mark the launch of McCarthy & Stone's residents' book club in St Andrews. The provision of a wonderful reading room in this new development is a heartening example of enlightened thinking. I'm sure it will prove to be a stimulating environment, both socially and intellectually.
“Books are marvellous meeting grounds, with the book club being a trading place for literary passions and much else besides. The shared experience of talking about books in company is one of life's great and enriching pleasures.”
If you’re interested in starting up your own book club, here are some tips to get you going.
St Andrews is much more than a destination for a great day-out by the sea, it’s a charming place to call home. If you would like to know more about the benefits of Retirement Living at Scholars Gate, why not arrange a visit and we’ll give you a tour of our show complex.
