The Queen becomes the longest reigning Monarch

09 September 2015

On Wednesday 9th September 2015, HRH Queen Elizabeth II will become the longest-serving monarch in British history, surpassing the record set by Queen Victoria.

With over 63 years on the throne, her reign has overseen more change in the way we live in Britain than any of her predecessors, but her enduring appeal has hardly ever wained. So take a look back with us at some of our favourite pictures, moments and facts about her.

For a number of years she was very interested in the quest to solve the mystery of the Loch Ness Monster

She's even introduced a new breed herself - the Dorgi (Corgi cross with a Daschund)

As well as handing the World Cup to England after their triumph in 1966, she attended her first game in 1953 - which just so happened to be the famous 'Matthews final'

She even showed her funny side by agreeing to be part of the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony by pretending she'd parachuted into the stadium (which of course she didn't really do) before officially opening the games (watch it all again here)
