The time was right to downsize to a retirement apartment
23 December 2014
Last August, Mrs Estelle Longmore and her husband moved to our Cosgrove Hall Court in Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester. Here Mrs Longmore explains why they decided to make the move and how their new apartment felt like home after just one week.
We had lived in our three bedroom semi-detached house for over 30 years but felt that the time was right to downsize. The upkeep of the house was becoming a bit of a worry and the garden maintenance was a bit of a chore. We realised we were not getting any younger and wanted to move while we were still young enough to cope.
We looked at a number of different options and apartments and decided that we preferred a McCarthy & Stone Retirement Living apartment. It was far more luxurious than the other apartments we viewed and reasonably priced too. We love Chorlton-cum-Hardy and we really didn’t want to move far from the area so the location of the development is ideal.
A Retirement Living development really works for us. Cosgrove Hall Court is a very sociable place and we really enjoy the active social life here. We have regular coffee mornings and film nights, and there is always someone to talk to, even when you are just putting your bin out! However, having your own apartment means that, if you prefer your own company, there is complete privacy in your home.
Of course, there are things that we do miss. My husband sometimes misses his garden but we certainly don’t miss the maintenance, and there are beautiful gardens to enjoy here.
The development has its own hotel style guest suite which family and friends can use when they come to visit. We have made very good use of this and it means that my daughter can often visit us. My family were very impressed with our apartment and its surroundings; it was really nice to know that they approved.
I recently celebrated my birthday and held a party in the homeowners’ lounge. It was great that I could invite all my family and friends without worrying about the space. The staff here were also really helpful so I was able to enjoy a lovely relaxing birthday.
Overall we are extremely happy with our move and we felt at home in our new apartment within a week of moving. We went on holiday for a couple of days after we moved in and had confidence that our apartment would be safe and secure.
The security system gives us real peace of mind so we can relax and enjoy all the social activities on offer.
