Living life to the full for John in Pitlochry
27 February 2013
Settling in Pitlochry at age 66, former Metropolitan police officer John Henley believes in living life to the full Fishersview Court.
Whether it’s enjoying a jamming session in one of the local bars, leading his newly-formed walking group out and around the picturesque sites in the Highlands or enjoying the company of his fellow residents there’s plenty to keep his mind and soul active!
Choosing Pitlochry from his native Bristol was an easy choice as John had been to Pitlochry a fair few times as he had an interest in buying and selling malt whisky! Familiar with the area, John was also involved in selling artisan beer into selected outlets across this area.
John’s move came after he had the unfortunate experience of witnessing two terrible riots that had happened within around two weeks of each other in the city and it made him evaluate where he wanted to spend his retirement. He had a five-year plan and decided that Bristol wasn’t for him at this stage of his life.
“I’d looked around a few McCarthy & Stone properties and the thing that impressed me most was that everyone I seemed to meet was really happy with their decision to buy with McCarthy & Stone.
“McCarthy & Stone made my move here so simple and stress-free. They were brilliant. They kept me up-to-date with my purchase and I used a really great service they offer called ‘House to Home’ where some chaps literally packed up my house in Bristol, and then unpacked everything for me in my new apartment. They even removed all the items I didn’t want to take with me and took them to a local charity shop and the whole thing just took a massive weight off my shoulders.
“I just love it here. It’s so quiet and peaceful and I love having the opportunity to socialise with other residents in the lounge downstairs. Everyone’s really sociable here so there’s always a little party going on for something! Equally, if you want privacy your apartment is just upstairs so it’s the best of all worlds.
“It’s really friendly in Pitlochry – I’m out most days along the High Street and I already know lots of people to say ‘hello’ to so I already feel very at home here. In fact my sister came to visit recently and I’m trying to convince her to move from Bristol to join me up here as she really enjoyed a warm welcome whilst she was here!”
