Lady Susan Court & Emma Court – Highly Commended
21 November 2014
Congratulations to the South West region and the team at Lady Susan Court & Emma Court. The development was highly commended at this month's Housebuilder Awards, in the ‘Best Retirement Scheme’ category.
The Housebuilder Awards are amongst the most prestigious awards in the industry, arranged by the Home Builders Federation and the NHBC.
Lady Susan Court and Emma Court are a combined development of 94 purpose-built apartments for older people in Basingstoke.
The two distinct elements of this development have been sensitively designed to respect two separate conservation areas – BasingstokeTown and Fairfeilds. There is a traditional redbrick design on the Southern Road elevation reflecting the domestic scale of the area. In contrast, the New Road frontage features a more contemporary design with paired gableroofs linked by glass links and a curved wooden corner feature with projecting glass balconies. The development is also located only a shortwalk from the town centre, providing residentswith easy access to shops and services.
Both Lady Susan Court and Emma Court have been built to surpass the Lifetimes Homes Standards. The homeowners had a selection of apartment layouts and styles to choose from. All apartments incorporate features to support older homeowners such as 24-hour emergency call points, electrical sockets at a raised height to reduce bending, easy-grip taps in the bathroom and kitchen, slip-resistant flooring in the bathroom – as well as double glazing and energy efficient heating. All Assisted Living apartments are fully wheelchair accessible. Many apartments in both developments have walk-out balconies providing private outside space and some have walk-in wardrobes for extra storage space.
All apartments at both Lady Susan Court and Emma Court have been sold out.
