How to start your own book club
30 August 2012
As the early evenings start to draw in, it’s tempting to settle down with a good book. Follow these tips and you could soon be sitting down with like-minded people, sharing your thoughts on anything from Jane Austen to Jilly Cooper!
1. What do you like reading?
Whether it’s popular fiction, biographies or literary classics, decide whether you will be a ‘serious’ or ‘light’ club before you start.
2. Aim to get five to eight people to join in
Traditionally, members meet in each other’s homes and provide light snacks and refreshments (wine included).
3. Spend the first meeting choosing the books you’d all like to cover
Don’t be afraid to choose something controversial – the best books stimulate conversation.
