A Taste of Spain at Morgan Court

20 December 2013

McCarthy & Stone homeowner, Carmen Pacheco, has bought an air of the Mediterranean to Petworth, by introducing her new neighbours and friends at Morgan Court to the art of flamenco dance and music.

Carmen, who has danced all her life downsized to the Retirement Living development on Station Road in June this year in order to live closer to her son, leaving her large home and dance studio in Surrey behind.

However, undeterred by no longer having her studio on her doorstep to rehearse and teach, Carmen has taken the opportunity to demonstrate her passion with her fellow neighbours since moving to Petworth.

Once settled into her new home, Ms Pacheco wanted to give her fellow residents an activity they could all get involved in, whether sitting down or standing up, so offered them the chance to undertake a Flamenco morning in the homeowners’ lounge. She said: “It was a wonderful morning and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their experience. Flamenco dancing has been a part of my life since I was very young and I have taught people how to dance for over 30 years. This style of dancing is part of my heritage and has enabled me to have a very successful career in performing and teaching others.

“It was a great activity for everyone to get involved with and the wine and tapas added that extra taste of Spain to the day.”

The homeowners at Morgan Court loved the event so much that many requested regular classes from Carmen, who is currently exploring the possibility of teaching flamenco dance locally.

Julie Ward, Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy & Stone, said: “This was a great way for all the homeowners and their families to come together and enjoy themselves. The opportunity to take part in activities such as this reflects one of the best aspects of life at one of our developments – the sense of community.

“We like to learn about all our homeowners’ backgrounds and once we discovered Carmen’s passion and love for dancing we thought this would provide a fantastic communal event for everyone. This definitely proved to be the case as several people expressed the hope that the experience would be repeated.”

Available exclusively for those over the age of 60, Morgan Court is designed exclusively for those who want the independence of retaining home ownership while living in an environment specifically designed for those reaching their later years. Reduced maintenance provides more time for people to embrace the possibilities of later life, while state of the art safety and security features and a range of shared areas and facilities mean greater peace of mind and companionship.

Carmen concluded: “Moving to Morgan Court was a very big step for me as I left behind my home and the dance studio that I had built next to my house. However everyone has been so welcoming and I already feel so at home here.”

Ideally situated within easy walking distance of Petworth’s main market square with its antique shops, cafés and restaurants, Morgan Court consists of 26 one and two bedroom age-exclusive apartments. Prices start at £199,950.
