New year boost for Wokingham Charity from McCarthy and Stone

16 January 2017

Retirement Living housebuilder, McCarthy & Stone, has presented Wokingham Bracknell & Districts Mencap with a £500 donation, as an early boost towards the charity’s annual fundraising target.

An independent local registered charity, affiliated to the Royal Mencap Society, Wokingham Bracknell & Districts Mencap supports over 1200 adults and children with learning disabilities and/or an autism spectrum condition (ASC), as well as their parent carers and families.

Representatives from the charity were presented with a cheque by the McCarthy and Stone team (Lee Matthews, Site Manager and Karen Lewer and Tyna Howell, Sales Executives) at the housebuilder’s Queen’s Gate development, where construction is nearing completion on Wellington Road in Wokingham.   They were joined by The Mayor of Wokingham Borough, Councillor Robert Pitts, who has also pledged his support for the Wokingham Bracknell & Districts Mencap and is committed to raising money to help fund the charity’s Wokingham Borough Family Liaison Worker throughout his Mayoral term.

Mary Durman, Joint CEO of Wokingham Bracknell & Districts Mencap, said: “We are very grateful to McCarthy and Stone for this gesture of support.  We are an independent charity and donations of this kind are extremely important to us – the funds will go a long way to helping us make a real difference to families across the region who are living with learning disabilities or ASC.  The donation is a great start to the year, and we look forward to building on our relationship with McCarthy and Stone as it continues to establish a presence in Wokingham.”

Julie Ward, Regional Sales and Marketing Director at McCarthy and Stone South East, added: “As a company we appreciate that our responsibilities go further than building quality retirement properties, and we also seek to create a positive legacy in the communities in which we build.

“When we were looking for a charity for the South East regional office to support, Wokingham Bracknell & Districts Mencap stood out for the positive role it plays in the lives of many families across the region.  It is an absolute pleasure to present this donation to the charity and we wish the team a very successful 2017.”

McCarthy and Stone’s Retirement Living developments are designed to offer homeowners the very best in independent living within a safe and secure environment, with the opportunity to benefit from companionship when they want it and privacy and assistance when they need it.

Once complete, facilities at Queens Gate will include a club lounge, ideal for socialising with friends, beautifully landscaped gardens in which to relax and a convenient guest suite should homeowners have friends or relatives to stay. The development will also benefit from a dedicated Concierge, who will ensure the smooth-running of the development, a security entrance system, plus 24 hour emergency call points for added peace of mind for both homeowners and their families. The development show complex is now open to the public and with high demand they have already reserved 50% of the apartments.
