Woking and Sam Beare Hospices receive support from McCarthy & Stone

05 January 2018

McCarthy and Stone, the housebuilder behind the new Retirement Living PLUS development Augustus House in Virginia Water, has given local charity, Woking and Sam Beare Hospices, a welcome boost with a £500 donation.

Woking and Sam Beare Hospices are a patient-led charity that delivers specialist palliative care to people with advanced life-limiting conditions, as well as supporting their carers and families. Each year the charity cares for over 1,400 patients. Since Woking Hospice was merged with Sam Beare Hospices into a state-of-the-art facility in Goldsworth Park, it has been able to provide 20 private purpose built rooms, private family pods with the capacity for overnight stay, two bariatric rooms, and an enhanced Wellbeing Centre for those they care for.

McCarthy and Stone’s Customer Relationship Manager, Debbie Wynn, was joined by Richard Bolton and Matt Littlejohns from the Augustus House site team, to present Tasha Smith, Community Fundraiser at Sam Beare Hospice, with a cheque for £500.

“Thank you to McCarthy and Stone for the donation” commented Tasha Smith, Community Fundraiser at Sam Beare Hospice, “over 70% of the care we provide is in the patient’s own homes and support like this from the communities we care for is invaluable”.

Debbie Wynn, Customer Relationship Manager for McCarthy and Stone South East, added: “As a company, we appreciate our responsibilities go further than building quality retirement apartments, and we also seek to create a positive legacy in the communities in which we build.

“When we were looking for a charity in the Virginia Water area to support, Sam Beare Hospices stood out for the services it provides to the people of Surrey and its commitment to making a difference to those with life-limiting conditions.  It was our absolute pleasure to present this donation to such a deserving charity; and we wish Tasha and the team every success with their ongoing fundraising efforts.”
