Wilmslow retiree gets new lease of life at McCarthy and Stone

28 February 2018

They say getting older allows you to spend more time doing the things you love. This couldn’t be truer for 77-year-old Patricia Jones, who recently moved into McCarthy and Stone’s Retirement Living development in Wilmslow, Lawson Grange, and now spends her time doing more of the things she enjoys – exactly how retirement should be!

Originally from Sandbach, Patricia lived and worked in the town for many years before moving to Appleton with her partner. However, she often spent time in the beautiful Cheshire town of Wilmslow, visiting her daughter and family who had made a home there.

After becoming widowed and facing a difficult period of ill-heath, Pat found her large home too much to maintain, and she eventually made the decision to move to Wilmslow after purchasing a property at another retirement development.

Finding it difficult to settle and losing a degree of mobility through ill-health, Patricia decided to enquire at McCarthy and Stone, as she wanted a ground floor property with a buzzing social environment.

Patricia said: “I was really interested in an apartment on the ground floor; and the Sales Executive, Brenda, took the time to show us around. Before I moved, I went along to a lovely Champagne afternoon tea event in the homeowners’ lounge. Meeting people before I moved in was a fantastic way to help make new friends and it excited me for the road ahead.”

McCarthy and Stone’s Retirement Living developments offer homeowners the very best in independent living within a safe and secure environment, with the opportunity to benefit from companionship when desired, as well as privacy when needed.

There are landscaped outdoor areas in which to relax, and a convenient guest suite should homeowners have friends or relatives to stay. A House Manager takes care of the smooth day-to-day running of the development; while a security entrance system and 24-hour emergency call points provide added peace of mind for homeowners and their families.

At Lawson Grange, Patricia has been able to relax and concentrate on doing things she loves. She regularly attends an exercise class, one of her favourite things to do, alongside going to church and attending lunch clubs. She speaks excitedly about her interest for the development socials: “I love meeting my fellow homeowners and friends each day for a coffee and a catch up in our homeowners’ lounge. Iain, the House Manager, has enquired about an exercise class here which I would love. My week is usually busy, which is great, and it keeps me out of mischief!“

As well as enjoying her busy social life at Lawson Grange, Patricia feels at home in her new apartment. She said: “I was really impressed with the size of my apartment. Because I have a door onto the patio, I’m really looking forward to the summer months when I can relax in the lovely gardens. I have everything I need at Lawson Grange and, since moving, I’ve not looked back!”

Talking about her mum’s move, Alison said: “The whole process of moving was easy from start to finish; and the fabulous McCarthy and Stone team including Brenda, the Sales Executive, and Iain, the House Manager, made the move as stress free as possible. The site team were great too, well-mannered and polite, always ensuring things were as we wanted. Because the whole process was very easy, my mum settled in quickly and is loving her new home.  After a tough year, she’s got her mojo back. I couldn’t be happier!”

Prices at Lawson Grange start from £429,999 for the remaining two-bedroom apartments.

Fiona Brooks, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy and Stone North West, said: “It gives us great pleasure when homeowners like Patricia use the move to a McCarthy and Stone apartment as an opportunity to do everything they have ever wanted in life. We’re so pleased living at Lawson Grange has made a fantastic impact on Patricia; and we hope she continues to enjoy her new lifestyle with a fantastic group of new friends.”
