What's in a name? McCarthy & Stone invites locals to name the Thornton-Cleveleys development

16 May 2017

The UK’s leading retirement housebuilder, McCarthy and Stone, has announced construction will soon be starting at its forthcoming site in Thornton-Cleveleys, just four miles north of Blackpool.

Situated between the coastline and the scenic Wyre Estuary Country Park, the Retirement Living development will feature 25 one-bedroom apartments and 17 two-bedroom apartments available exclusively for those over 60.

McCarthy and Stone is inviting locals in Thornton-Cleveleys to enter its ‘What’s in a Name?’ competition, and suggest a name for the new development. The winner will be granted the opportunity to attend the official opening, as well as receiving a cheque for £250.

Fiona Brooks, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy and Stone North West, said: “We are delighted to offer people from the local area the opportunity to name our forthcoming development in Thornton-Cleveleys. We are looking for a name which is relevant to the local community, and this can be anything from suggestions incorporating local landmarks, to those celebrating the history of the local area. Simply submit your idea by 30th June for your chance to scoop the prize.”

The development will seek to address the under-supply of specialist retirement housing in the area, with a recent report revealing almost a third (30%) of homeowners aged 55 and over in the North West are considering, or expect to consider downsizing, but a lack of suitable housing options is preventing them from moving*.

Fiona Brooks continues: “We hope our new Thornton-Cleveleys development will provide a positive contribution to the local area. Building more age-exclusive retirement housing will free up much-needed family homes in the local area; and this will ultimately help first-time buyers through the trickle-down effect in housing chains.

“The development will also have a positive economic impact on supporting local high streets. We estimate that on average schemes like this one will generate £670,000 per year in local spending by homeowners – this amounts to £125,000 more than a general needs housing scheme, and £69,000 in council tax for local facilities.

“Moreover, as construction gets underway, the plans for this new development will see us employ around 50 local companies, supporting local jobs and with additional job opportunities created when the first homeowners move in Summer 2018.”

To be in with a chance of naming McCarthy and Stone's new development and to win £250, all you have to do is send your name and contact details, along with your suggested development name and the reason for your chosen name, with the subject header ‘Thornton-Cleveleys’, to mccarthyandstone@mccann.com. The competition is open to people of all ages from the local and surrounding areas and the deadline for entries is 9th June.

Combining the best in modern living and low-maintenance design, the spacious apartments on offer at the new Retirement Living development in Thornton-Cleveleys will provide the perfect solution for anyone who is looking to maintain their independence whilst enjoying the peace of mind provided by additional security measures including 24-hour emergency call systems, as well as a dedicated House Manager who ensures the day-to-day running of the development.  Features will also include a stunning homeowners’ lounge, a guest suite and landscaped gardens, along with a private car park and on-site mobility scooter store.
