TV and Radio’s Gloria Hunniford Celebrates with Retirees in Oakham

10 September 2019

Television and radio personality, Gloria Hunniford OBE, was joined by local retirees for the grand opening of McCarthy and Stone’s latest Oakham development, Saxon Gardens

Gloria, who has enjoyed a successful TV and radio career spanning nearly 50 years, visited the Retirement Living Plus development on Penn Street to share her experiences as a radio presenter, and to provide an insight into some of the programmes she has featured on over the years, including Rip Off Britain, Loose Women and Strictly Come Dancing.

Gloria commented: “It was a pleasure to visit Saxon Gardens and give a talk on my television career. The development provides an excellent solution for all those looking to enjoy an independent and active lifestyle in retirement, and I enjoyed meeting and chatting to homeowners. It’s clear everyone values the quality of life afforded by their surroundings and the freedom of having a range of services on their doorstep.”

Samantha Watkins, Regional Sales and Marketing Director at McCarthy and Stone East Midlands, commented: “We are delighted so many Oakham retirees and their families joined us for the grand opening of Saxon Gardens, and we are very grateful to Gloria Hunniford for making it a day to remember!

“As well as having the opportunity to meet Gloria and to hear about her wonderful career, visitors were able to take a closer look at Saxon Gardens and find out more about the quality of life on offer at a McCarthy and Stone development.”

A development of 58 Retirement Living Plus apartments, Saxon Gardens has been designed exclusively for those age 70 and over, by the UK’s leading manager and developer of retirement communities, McCarthy and Stone.

Saxon Gardens features a high-quality bistro serving freshly prepared meals daily, a spacious and contemporary homeowners’ lounge, and lifts to assist with access; as well as beautiful landscaped gardens and a convenient guest suite for when friends and family come to visit.  An Estates Manager takes care of the smooth-running of the development, and support packages are available which can be tailored to homeowner’s individual needs, including help with chores such as housework and laundry.

Located a short walk from the high street, homeowners at Saxon Gardens benefit from easy access to local amenities such as a bank, pharmacy, Tesco and independent cafes and restaurants. The development is also ideally situated close to public transport links to locations further afield.
