Thornton Primary School visit McCarthy & Stone construction site for lesson in house building

27 September 2017

Children from Thornton Primary School donned hard hats and high-vis jackets last week for a visit to McCarthy and Stone’s Retirement Living development on Poacher Ways, Burrstone Grange, for a lesson in house building.

The Year 3 and 4 pupils arrived at the development in Thornton-Cleveleys and were met by Site Manager Daniel Blakley, before taking part in a fun workshop as part of their school module on the topic ‘Houses and Homes.’

Gemma Brocklehurst, Teacher of Zebra Class at Thornton Primary School, said: “The children thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon learning about house building and construction at Burrstone Grange. It was great to see them get so involved in the activities with the help of McCarthy and Stone staff. The class loved every minute of the trip – especially getting up close to the cranes and diggers!”

Regional Sales and Marketing Director at McCarthy and Stone North West, Fiona Brooks, said: “Alongside teaching the children about the importance of safety and how houses are built, they took part in some practical construction related activities such as laying a brick and taking measurements. Research has highlighted that 52% of pensioners in the North West are considering moving to smaller homes, showing the growing attraction of downsizing in the region, and the need for this form of specialist retirement housing.

“We would like to extend our thanks to the children of Thornton Primary School who demonstrated some excellent bricklaying skills during their visit to Burrstone Grange. We look forward to continuing to build on our relationship with Thornton Primary School.”

Currently under construction, Burrstone Grange will feature a Homeowners’ Lounge, ideal for socialising with friends, beautifully landscaped gardens in which to relax, plus a convenient guest suite should homeowners have friends or relatives to stay. A dedicated House Manager will take care of the smooth day-to-day running of the development, and a security entrance system and 24 hour emergency call points will provide added peace-of-mind.

More than 90% of customers would recommend McCarthy and Stone to a friend, ensuring it has received the maximum Five Star award for customer satisfaction from the Home Builders Federation for 12 years’ running. It is the only housebuilder of any size or type to achieve this accolade for 12 years, which every year the awards have been run.
