McCarthy and Stone, the housebuilder behind the Retirement Living and Retirement Living Plus developments in Maidenhead, has given local organisation, Maidenhead Men’s Shed, a welcome boost with a £500 donation.

Maidenhead Men’s Shed is a charitable organisation which relies on donations to run its vital support services within the community. As part of Southern Men’s Shed Network, Maidenhead Men’s Shed provides a supportive and friendly setting where men can socialise, learn new skills and hone existing skills; which helps to combat loneliness, and improve the health and wellbeing of members.

The Maidenhead Men’s Shed group, which started in March 2015, has up to ten members who meet on a weekly basis to work on a range of projects. The group, which was previously based at Braywick Nursery, is in the process of relocating to Boyn Grove due to redevelopment in the area and will be building a new shed. In addition to gardening projects, it is hoped the new shed enable members to start wood-work projects and stay open throughout the year.

McCarthy and Stone Customer Sales Executive, Jenny Brambley, welcomed Maidenhead Men’s Shed group to Swift House, on St. Luke’s Road, to present the charity with a cheque for £500.

Dr Chris Allen, the founder of Maidenhead Men’s Shed group, said: “We are delighted to receive this kind donation and gesture of support from McCarthy and Stone. We are a charitable organisation and donations of this kind are extremely important to us in helping to maintain the group. This support comes at a crucial time for the group, as we are in the process of relating from Braywick Nursery to Boyn Grove, and the money will go towards the cost of building a new shed.

Georgina Akers, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy and Stone South East, added: “As a company we appreciate our responsibilities go further than building quality retirement apartments, and we also seek to create a positive legacy in the communities in which we build.

“When we were looking for a charity in the Maidenhead area to support, Maidenhead Men’s Shed stood out for the health and wellbeing benefits it provides, helping to combat loneliness and isolation among men in the community. As a developer which strives to enrich the lives of retires through the opportunity to enjoy an independent retirement surrounded by like-minded individuals, it was our absolute pleasure to present this donation to such a deserving charity.  We wish them every success with their ongoing contribution to the community.”
