Safety first as local school children visit construction site

06 February 2018

Leading retirement housebuilder, McCarthy and Stone, recently welcomed a group of 8-9 year old children to the site of its forthcoming Hampton Retirement Living development, Cranberry Court.

Year 4 pupils from Hampton Hargate Primary School donned hard hats and high visibility jackets to take a closer look at the building works underway and to learn all about the importance of staying safe on a construction site. Under the close supervision of McCarthy and Stone Senior Site Manager, Chris Wright, and Assistant Manager, Ross Claydon, the children were even able to get involved with a bit of clearing up after their tour was over!

The visit was organised by McCarthy and Stone as a practical and fun way of connecting with a younger audience to reinforce site safety messages and to promote all that is positive about the construction and housebuilding industry.

Mrs Pink, teacher at Hampton Hargate Primary School, commented: “The children thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Cranberry Court. We’re grateful to the McCarthy and Stone team for inviting us to come down. Everyone found it enjoyable and informative, and it was great to get the children thinking about safety in and around building sites in such an engaging way.”

Cheryl Bissett, Regional Sales and Marketing Director at McCarthy and Stone East Midlands, comments: “At McCarthy and Stone, health and safety is always at the forefront of all our minds. A number of the children live near the site, and it is vital that they understand how to play safely in the community. It was wonderful to be able to welcome the group to Cranberry Court to take a look at the machinery and show them how great it is to work on a construction site – perhaps it will even act as an incentive for some of them to consider construction as a career when they’re older!”

Situated on Kempley Close in Hampton, Cranberry Court is already 50% sold. Set to welcome its first homeowners in June 2018, the Retirement Living development will eventually comprise a stylish collection of 45 one and two-bedroom luxury apartments for the over 60s.

Facilities at Cranberry Court will include a homeowners’ lounge ideal for socialising with friends, beautifully landscaped gardens, an on-site car park, and a convenient guest suite should homeowners have friends or relatives to stay.  A House Manager will take care of the smooth running of the development; while a security entrance system and 24-hour emergency call points will provide added peace-of-mind.

Future homeowners will benefit from easy access to local amenities, including the Serpentine Green shopping centre, a supermarket, healthcare centre and hairdressers. Those wishing to travel further afield will be able to take advantage of excellent transport links to Peterborough and London.

More than nine out of ten customers would recommend McCarthy and Stone to a friend, ensuring it has received the full Five Star award for customer satisfaction from the Home Builders Federation for 12 years’ running.  McCarthy and Stone is the only UK housebuilder of any size or type to achieve this accolade, which is every year the awards have been run.
