The UK’s leading retirement housebuilder, McCarthy and Stone, has announced the launch of its new dual Retirement Living and Retirement Living PLUS developments on Hale Road and Pegs Lane in Hertford, which have been named in honour of the area’s historic royal links.

Hertford Castle was regularly used by English royalty, and was particularly favoured by Edward II and his wife Queen Isabella, who lived in the beautiful Grade I Listed castle for long periods up until her death. The couple’s son, Edward III, also spent much of his time in Hertford Castle, which dates back to the 15th century.  In homage of the local landmark and its rich history, McCarthy and Stone’s new Hertford Retirement Living development has been named Isabella House, and its neighbouring Retirement Living PLUS development has been named Edward House.

Stephen Rolt, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy and Stone North London, said: “We wanted to choose names for the two distinctive elements of our new dual development that were not only memorable, but would also resonate with Hertford locals and future McCarthy and Stone homeowners. Our chosen names, Isabella House and Edward House, will serve as a celebration of the magnificent Hertford Castle and will also commemorate the royal couple – a topic we are sure future homeowners will be extremely interested in.”

Currently under construction, computer generated images have been released to show how Isabella House and Edward House will look when completed.  Isabella House will comprise of 24 Retirement Living apartments for the over 60’s which will offer Hertford retirees the opportunity to downsize and maintain an active, independent lifestyle, surrounded by like-minded individuals.

In addition, McCarthy and Stone will provide 57 spacious one and two bedroom Retirement Living PLUS apartments at Edward House, which will be designed exclusively for those over 70 who may require additional support. Whether it is help with chores such as housework or laundry, or just an extra pair of hands, support packages can be tailored to homeowner’s individual needs. There will also be an on-site bistro restaurant serving fresh and nutritious meal options daily, if homeowners don’t wish to cook in their apartments.

Both developments will feature a Club Lounge, ideal for socialising with new-found friends, a guest suite for when homeowners have visitors to stay, and beautifully maintained gardens.  A House Manager will take care of the day-to-day running of Isabella House, while an Estates Manager will be on hand at Edward House.  Secure entry systems and 24 hour emergency call points will provide added peace-of-mind.

Located in the market town of Hertford, future homeowners at Isabella House and Edward House will benefit from being within close proximity of Hertford East and Hertford North train stations, with easy transport links to London and London Kings Cross.

More than 90% of customers would recommend McCarthy and Stone to a friend, ensuring it has received the maximum Five Star award for customer satisfaction from the Home Builders’ Federation for 12 years’ running.  It is the only UK house builder of any size or type to achieve a Five Star award during every year of the HBF’s awards.
