Retirement development in Trowbridge honours historic local business man

08 November 2017

The UK’s leading retirement housebuilder McCarthy and Stone is set to launch its new Retirement Living development located on Seymour Road in Trowbridge this December.

The developer has decided to officially name the site Applegate House in tribute to local business man, William Applegate. Known for being a successful wine merchant in Trowbridge during the 1860’s as well as owning the former Roundstone House Hotel, Applegate’s contributions to the town are well-remembered in local history.

Kim Caldwell, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy and Stone Southern, comments: “We are really pleased to be able to honour a local business man who made such a lasting contribution to the local history of Trowbridge in the naming of our Applegate House development. We are looking forward to becoming an integrated part of the community in Trowbridge, and we believe that our development will play a real part in helping to bring friends and family together in later life, something we feel is important and will bring lots of positive benefits to the area.”

McCarthy and Stone plan to launch the new Applegate House development of 20 one and 20 two bedroom, high quality, low maintenance apartments in December 2017, with first homeowners expected to move in during July 2018.

Local retirees are invited to Trowbridge Rugby Club, Hilperton, BA14 6JB, to explore the benefits of downsizing at a special information day about its age exclusive apartments. This will take place on Wednesday 15th November from 11-3pm, attendees can either call and book on to the event or show up on the day. This will be the first chance to view apartment specifications and layouts ahead of the sales release in December where prices will be released. Priority appointments will also be taken for those keen to secure the pick of the plots.

Centrally located in the heart of Trowbridge, Applegate House has a wide range of amenities on the doorstep including local shops, restaurants, cafes, and good transport links to Bath and other surrounding towns.

All apartments will feature spacious living and dining areas, fully fitted kitchens laid out to make cooking and cleaning as effortless as possible. Luxury shower rooms will provide both style and functionality; and central to the development will be a communal club lounge – the perfect space for socialising with friends, or getting to know new neighbours. Selected apartments will also feature balconies for extra outdoor space, and on-site parking will be available.

Kim Caldwell continues, “Our new development will provide a great opportunity for people aged 60 and over who want to carry on living independently and enjoying life to the full, but might benefit from downsizing their current property to something that is lower maintenance and less of a burden on their time. Our Retirement Living developments are very social places so there’s also lots of opportunities for homeowners to take part in weekly events. As well as this, there is a stunning guest suite for when they have friends or family to stay. An experienced House Manager is also there to oversee the day to day running of the development and provide a helping hand if required.”
