Retirement development in Bristol honours city's aviation history

09 August 2017

The UK’s leading retirement housebuilder, McCarthy and Stone, is set to launch its new Retirement Living development in Charlton Hayes, Bristol in November 2017.

It has been officially announced this week that the developer has named the site, Hamilton House, in tribute to Sir James Hamilton - a historic figure, both locally and nationally, for his significant contribution to British aviation.

Born in 1923 in Midlothian, Sir James Hamilton was an aeronautical engineer who was heavily involved in the design of Concorde, one of Bristol’s most famous and iconic exports.  Sir James Hamilton was appointed by the government in 1966 as Britain’s Director-General of the world-renowned project.

Simon Mantell, Regional Managing Director at McCarthy & Stone South West said:  “Sir James Hamilton made an incredible contribution to British aviation history, and his work is well documented within the area, which is why we thought naming our latest development in his honour would make a fitting tribute.

“We are looking forward to becoming an integrated part of the Charlton Hayes community. We believe Hamilton House will play a real part in helping to bring friends and family together in later life, something we feel is important and will bring lots of positive benefits to the area.”

Hamilton House, which is currently under construction, will comprise a stylish collection of one and two bedroom private apartments, exclusively for those aged 60 and over.

Combining the best in modern living and low-maintenance design, the spacious apartments will offer the perfect solution for anyone who is looking to maintain their independence whilst enjoying the peace of mind provided by additional security measures including a 24-hour emergency call system, as well as a dedicated House Manager who will take care of the day-to-day running of the development.

Each apartment at the development will feature a fully fitted kitchen, spacious living area and walk in or fitted wardrobes to the main bedroom. There will also be plenty of communal and social spaces at the development allowing homeowners to enjoy the best of both worlds – the independence of owning their own home, plus the option of companionship if they choose. This includes a stunning homeowner’s lounge, beautiful landscaped gardens including a boules court, and a convenient guest suite for when friends and family come to visit.

More than nine out of ten customers would recommend McCarthy and Stone to a friend, ensuring it has received the full Five Star award for customer satisfaction from the Home Builders Federation for 12 years’ running.  McCarthy and Stone is the only UK housebuilder of any size or type to achieve this accolade for 12 years, which is every year the awards have been run.
