Retirement development in Bawtry honours William Bradford

14 June 2017

UK’s leading retirement housebuilder, McCarthy and Stone, is set to launch its new Retirement Living development in Bawtry, Doncaster in early 2018.

Officially announced this week, the developer has decided to name the site on Tickhill Road, William Bradford Court, in tribute to William Bradford, a Pilgrim Father who sailed on the ship Mayflower in 1620.

A historic figure in the area, William Bradford was born in the village of Austerfield just outside of Bawtry in the late 1580s, and was baptised in St. Helena’s Church. William was a member of the Separatists, and became one of the leading Pilgrim Fathers on the Mayflower voyage to North America. The sailing of the Mayflower is a well-documented piece of history, and in 2020 the United Kingdom along with the United States of America and Holland, will commemorate its 400th anniversary.

Liz Green, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy and Stone North East, comments: “William Bradford made an incredible contribution to the history of Bawtry, and his life is well documented within the area, which is why we thought this would make a fitting tribute.

“We are looking forward to becoming an integrated part of the Bawtry community in Doncaster, and we believe that our development will play a real part in helping to bring friends and family together in later life, something we feel is important and will bring lots of positive benefits to the area.”

William Bradford Court is already proving extremely popular amongst local retirees with its central location and impressive facilities. The development which is currently under construction, will consist of 34 one and two bedroom apartments, alongside beautiful landscaped gardens that will be fully maintained by expert gardeners, and convenient on-site parking. Selected apartments will also feature a private terrace.

Aimed exclusively at people aged 60 and over, the development provides luxury retirement living free from external maintenance, and allows homeowners to enjoy an independent lifestyle in a safe and secure environment. Set in a prominent location, William Bradford Court has a good range of amenities nearby, and good public transport links to Doncaster, Gainsborough and other surrounding towns.
