Retirees in St Albans delight with Olympic star

05 October 2017

British Olympic Champion, Dame Mary Peters CH DBE RNR, joined local retirees earlier this week for the grand opening of the show complex at McCarthy and Stone’s Retirement Living PLUS development in St Albans, Eleanor House.

All of those who attended the event were treated to afternoon tea whilst having the privilege of mingling with the British Olympic Champion and being among the first to view the beautiful fully-furnished show apartments at Eleanor House.

Dame Mary Peters, who won the women’s pentathlon gold medal at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, was joined by staff and homeowners for a speech where she talked about her experiences as an Olympian and sporting ambassador.

Dame Mary said: “I was delighted to be invited to St Albans for the opening of Eleanor House. It was an absolute pleasure to be able to chat to homeowners there, reminisce about the good old days and share my gold medal with them. I was so inspired by some of their stories and I thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the ribbon-cutting and opening celebrations of what is truly a remarkable development.”

Designed exclusively for discerning over 70s, the Retirement Living PLUS development features a collection of 50 one and two bedroom apartments, priced from £424,950 and £614,950 respectively.

Stephen Rolt, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy and Stone North London, commented: “We’re very thankful to Dame Mary Peters for taking the time to visit our new development in St Albans, and to open the show complex apartment to the community. Enjoying an independent and active lifestyle in a safe and secure environment is incredibly important, and Eleanor House will certainly provide further choice for those who are looking to downsize to a more manageable property in the area.
