Residents to help shape retirement accommodation proposals in Chelmsford
12 October 2015
McCarthy and Stone, the UK’s leading retirement house builder, is preparing proposals to redevelop the Miami Hotel on Princes Road in Chelmsford with high-quality Assisted Living (Extra Care) apartments and is currently inviting feedback from local residents on the plans through a public exhibition.
The public exhibition is taking place:
On: Monday 19th October 2015
Between: 3pm and 7pm
At: Miami Hotel, Princes Road, Essex, CM2 9AJ
Ali Maruf, Regional Managing Director for McCarthy and Stone (North London Region) said:
“This is a great opportunity to obtain feedback on our scheme so that we can ensure that it will complement Chelmsford’s character. Our plans will improve local housing choice and deliver a high-quality, attractive development that will allow people to retain independence and fulfilment during their retirement in a safe environment.”
The proposal site is ideally located for older person’s accommodation, being a short walk to local shops, services and transport options. McCarthy and Stone believe the redevelopment of the site offers an important opportunity to provide much needed specialist accommodation in Chelmsford.
Assisted Living (Extra Care) apartments are specifically designed to cater for the needs of the elderly who have increasing problems of mobility/frailty and feature a high specification of shared facilities and features that allow older people to continue to live independently in their own homes. These include access to an on-site care team 24 hours a day, a restaurant and dining room offering a cooked meal 365 days a year as well as guest accommodation.
The Miami Hotel has become available for redevelopment as the restructuring of roads and businesses in Chelmsford, coupled with the influx of major brand budget hotels, has meant the hotel can no longer compete in the market. It will continue to trade as normal until planning permission has been agreed and passed by Chelmsford City Council.
McCarthy and Stone is committed to engaging with the local community ahead of submitting a planning application. If you are unable to attend the public exhibition or would like further information, McCarthy and Stone has provided a Freephone information line for you to call (0800 298 7040) and has set up a website covering the initial proposals which can be found at www.mccarthyandstone-consultation.co.uk/miamihotelchelmsford.
