Residents to help shape proposals for next phase of Taunton regeneration scheme

29 September 2015

Local residents have an opportunity to shape new housing in Taunton as Abbey Manor Developments have joined forces with leading retirement housebuilders McCarthy & Stone to reveal proposals to transform land located north of Canal Road with high-quality Retirement Living apartments and open market homes and apartments. This is the next phase of the wider regeneration of Firepool Lock.

McCarthy & Stone and Abbey Manor Developments have jointly acquired an interest in the brownfield site, conveniently located close to the centre of Taunton, and are now looking to develop the site with approximately 44 high-quality Retirement Living apartments, up to 10 two bed open market apartments and 4 three bed open market houses along with professional landscaping and appropriate car parking.

This scheme will provide the confidence and certainty to enable the investment in the redevelopment of the historic Pump House.

Both McCarthy & Stone and Abbey Manor Developments are committed to engaging with the local community and will share their proposals with local residents at a public exhibition on Tuesday 13 October, between 3pm and 7pm at the Museum of Somerset, Taunton Castle, Castle Green, Taunton, TA1 4AA

Nigel Timmis, Managing Director at Abbey Manor Developments, said:

“We are excited to bring these proposals forward for the people of Taunton. This brownfield site is in clear need of regeneration and these new plans would introduce new housing which would help meet an identified and growing need in the area.”

Shane Paull, McCarthy & Stone Regional Managing Director, added:

“We want to hear from the local community before we submit a planning application and will be displaying our plans at the exhibition. Our project team will be at the exhibition to answer questions and listen to feedback and the comments we receive will help us tailor our proposals.”

McCarthy & Stone is renowned for the quality of their developments that give their homeowners the time and opportunity to do things they have always wanted to do. The apartments allow people in later life to retain their independence, close to their family and friends, in a home suited specifically for their needs, in a safe and enjoyable environment.

Abbey Manor Developments Ltd is one of the leading private property companies in the South of England, with an established commitment to the regeneration of Firepool Lock since 2001 and have so far delivered 285 dwellings on this site, 95 of which are affordable dwellings, with planning consent for a further 186 homes.

If you are not able to attend the public exhibition or would like further information, McCarthy & Stone and Abbey Manor Developments have provided a dedicated freephone information line for you to call (0800 298 7040) and have set up a website covering their initial proposals, which can be found at www.mccarthyandstone-consultation.co.uk/taunton.
