Residents invited to view retirement homes plan for Kettering
26 January 2016
A public exhibition will give local residents the opportunity to view and comment on McCarthy and Stone’s preliminary plans to redevelop the former Satra premises, Rockingham Road, Kettering. The site is brownfield and will soon become vacant.
McCarthy and Stone’s plans seek to develop the site with approximately 42 Retirement Living apartments and 56 Assisted Living (Extra Care) apartments, specifically designed to meet the needs of people in later life.
McCarthy and Stone’s plans are still at a preliminary stage and no planning application has been submitted.
The public exhibition marks the next stage of the community consultation and will be held:
On: Monday 8 February
At: Kettering Christian Centre, 2a Pollard Street, Kettering, NN16 9RW
Between: 3pm – 7pm
McCarthy and Stone believes the redevelopment of the site offers an important opportunity to provide much needed specialist retirement apartments, increasing the housing choice for local older people. The local over 65s population is predicted to rise by 93% over the next 20 years.
Mark Wright, Regional Managing Director at McCarthy and Stone said: “We want to hear from the local community and our future home-owners before we finalise our plans. We will be displaying our preliminary plans and ideas at a public exhibition where our project team will be on hand to answer questions and listen to feedback on what we have done so far. The comments we receive will help us tailor and refine our proposals.”
He continued: “Our proposal provides an important opportunity to deliver a sensitive residential development that will significantly improve the housing choices for older people in this part of Kettering, whilst regenerating a soon-to-be vacant brownfield site.”
McCarthy and Stone is renowned for the quality of its developments that give homeowners the time and opportunity to do things they’ve always wanted to do. The apartments allow people in later life to retain their independence, close to their family and friends, in their own home suited specifically for homeowners’ needs, in a safe and enjoyable environment.
Retirement Living accommodation, where the average age of residents is 78, is specifically designed to meet the needs of people in later life and includes a residents’ lounge, a guest suite and House Manager.
Assisted Living (Extra Care) accommodation helps to meet the needs of the frail elderly, where the average age of residents is 84, offering on-site care and support whilst promoting independent, active and healthy lifestyles. Facilities include a full service restaurant, dining room and residents’ lounge. Developments are staffed 24hrs a day, providing residents with access to both personal and domestic assistance as required, whilst creating 17 full time equivalent jobs.
